Academic Workshops

Academic workshop classes will include mostly in-class work with some outside reading and/or homework. Academic workshop classes are Pass/Fail and are added to a student's transcript/report card only by request of the parent after the class is complete. High school workshops will receive 2.5 credits and will receive the OS (Kolbe Summer Course) designation on the Kolbe transcript. Academic workshop classes are limited to a 20 student enrollment maximum.

Mini-Workshops

Our Study Skills mini-workshops meet 6 times over the summer.  This class may require a little outside reading and work, but most of the material is practiced within the workshop.  Mini-workshop classes are Pass/Fail and are added to a student's transcript/report card only by request of the parent after the class is complete. Mini-workshops will receive 1.25 credits and will receive the OS (Kolbe Summer Course) designation on the Kolbe transcript. Junior High students taking this class can have it listed on their grade report if requested by the parent.  Mini-workshop classes are not limited to the typical 20 student maximum enrollment.

Academic Seminars

Academic seminar classes will include in-class lecture and discussion on outside reading assignments but do not require any outside written work. Academic seminar classes are Pass/Fail and are added to a student's transcript/report card only by request of the parent after the class is complete. The pass/fail grade given by the teacher will be based on attendance and participation only.  High school seminar classes are eligible to receive 2.5 credits of academic elective credit only if a student writes a paper and the parent submits the paper with a Pass/Fail grade to Kolbe using this form. All high school Academic Seminar classes will receive the OS (Kolbe Summer Course) designation on the Kolbe transcript.   Academic seminar classes are not limited to the typical 20 student maximum enrollment.

Academic Semester Classes

Academic Semester Credit classes are worth 5 credits of academic credit in the discipline indicated and are graded by the teacher on the A-F scale.  A Kolbe transcript will be generated automatically for any student who completes an Academic Semester Credit class.  Students should expect the typical amount of outside work in these classes, including papers, reading, exams and/or final projects, and other assignments.  All Academic Semester courses may be counted toward the subject requirements of the Standard or Magna Cum Laude Diplomas. Students pursuing the Summa Cum Laude diploma may count the Fine Arts courses toward their fine arts subject requirements, but the remainder do not fulfill any of the Summa diploma's subject requirements. All Academic Semester classes will receive the Kolbe Summer Course (OS) designation on the student transcript.
