MLA Workshop

This course is a Mini-Workshop for developing skills in MLA formatting, citations, and research.  

Course Description

MLA Style is the most commonly used format for writing assignments at all levels in education. During this course, the instructor will guide the students through various assignments designed to target the following objectives: 

A. How to format MLA papers 
B. How to find credible sources on the internet
C. How to cite internet sources correctly in a Work Cited page
D. How to demonstrate mastery of MLA Style and avoid accidental plagiarism

The structure of this mini-session is to focus on a new aspect of MLA each week, ensuring mastery of the concepts as we go. By the end, the students will have developed the confidence to avoid accidental plagiarism and to provide quality work in all of their school subjects.

Mini-Workshop

Our Study Skills mini-workshops meet 6 times over the summer.  This class may require a little outside reading and work, but most of the material is practiced within the workshop.  Mini-workshop classes are Pass/Fail and are added to a student's transcript/report card only by request of the parent after the class is complete using this form. Mini-workshops will receive 1.25 credits and will receive the OS (Kolbe Summer Course) designation on the Kolbe transcript. Junior High students taking this class can have it listed on their grade report if requested by the parent.  Mini-workshop classes are not limited to the typical 20 student maximum enrollment.
