Algebra 2

The Algebra II (K) course moves at a very reasonable pace for most high school students. It is meant to be a college preparatory course in nature, taking the student through a great number of Algebra II concepts but also spending a little more time on reviewing Algebra I than the honors course.  Upon completion of Algebra II, students will be ready to tackle any PreCalculus course the following year.

Course Description

Topics in the Algebra 2 course include: linear functions, systems of linear equations and inequalities, quadratic functions and complex numbers, exponential and Logarithmic functions, rational Algebraic Functions, irrational Algebraic Functions, quadratic Relations and Systems (circles, ellipses, hyperbolas, and parabolas).

Topics covered:

Algebra 2

  1. Linear functions
  2. Systems of linear equations and inequalities
  3. Quadratic functions and complex numbers
  4. Exponential and Logarithmic functions
  5. Rational Algebraic Functions
  6. Irrational Algebraic Functions
  7. Quadratic Relations and Systems (Circles, Ellipses, hyperbolas, and parabolas).

  • Algebra 1
Course Expectations

Students taking this course for Kolbe Core (OK) credit are expected to complete daily assignments and complete periodic exams and quizzes as assigned by their parent.

All requirements are assigned and graded by the parent - Enhanced Evaluation Service is available for additional grading assistance.

Course Texts
  • Algebra and Trigonometry: Functions and Applications
  • Calculator Requirement & Policy:  Graphing Calculator. Students are required to have a standalone calculator that has the ability to graph, work with polar coordinates, make statistical calculations, complete matrix calculations, store multiple values, and evaluate trigonometric functions.  Teachers will teach the course using a TI-84 Plus calculator.  Students should plan to either have a device that they are able to function independently or a device that will match the teacher.  The devices that will be compatible to the instruction are the TI-83, TI-83 Plus and TI-84.
