Academic Advisor - Position Open

ACADEMIC ADVISOR

Kolbe Academy, a private, Catholic, home school program in Napa, California, is seeking a full-time Academic Advisor in the Academic Services Department. The Academic Advisor will assist in the carrying out of the mission of Kolbe Academy to "form classically educated young men and women according to the unbroken tradition and teachings of the Catholic Church."

Essential Duties:

This position is responsible for most aspects of assisting home schooling families, including, but not limited to:

• Providing excellent customer service via phone, e-mail and online chat re: curriculum, educational philosophy, instructional techniques, college preparation, etc.

• Processing registrations and preparing instructional materials

• Assessing quarterly progress of students by reviewing and commenting on work samples

• Preparing grade records, transcripts and diplomas

• Grading junior high and high school level work

• Developing/revising curriculum materials

• Traveling to home-school conferences and speaking to prospective parents regarding Kolbe's program and curriculum

• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree

• Must be a practicing Catholic willing to take an Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium and to make a Profession of Faith.

• Must be able to work out of our Napa, California office

Skills:

• Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and pleasant phone demeanor

• Must be able to multi-task with minimal supervision

• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word and Excel

• Must be comfortable learning new technology

• More advanced computer skills a plus

• Bi-lingual English and Spanish highly desired but not required

• Very desirable is either experience with home schooling or having been home-schooled; or past experience teaching or tutoring

• Ability to provide specialized instruction or assist in developing curriculum in a specific subject area is desired

Physical demands/Workplace Environment:

• Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis

• Must be able to sit or stand for up to 8 hours daily

• Some travel is required

 

Compensation:

Full-time hourly, wage DOE. Includes medical, dental, and paid leave Position start depends on availability of candidate. PROGRAM ASSISTANT

Kolbe Academy, a private, Catholic, home school program in Napa, California, is seeking a full-time Program Assistant in the Academic Services Department. The Program Assistant will assist Academic Services staff in the carrying out of the mission of Kolbe Academy to “form classically educated young men and women according to the unbroken tradition and teachings of the Catholic Church.”

Essential Duties:

This position aids the Academic Services Department with most aspects of assisting home schooling families, including, but not limited to:

• Answering, routing, and responding to phone calls and emails from parents and prospective customers

• Working with academic services staff to process student registrations and student records

• Assisting in processing and filing student records

• Coordinating standardized testing

• Coordinating grading of assignments by academic services staff

• Coordinating and making arrangements for travel for conferences

• Assisting in creation and sending of mass mailings and email

• Assisting Registrar & Dean of Admissions in registration of new students

• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma required, Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred

• Must be a practicing Catholic willing to take an Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium and to make a Profession of Faith. Must be able to work out of our Napa, California office

Online Instructor

An online instructor must be a self-starter, and willing to lead an online course using Kolbe Academy curriculum.  Kolbe will provide the course plan, books, software and training needed to be successful in this role.   

Responsibilities

  • Conduct live classes as scheduled.
  • Check email and Schoology messages on a daily basis, Monday-Friday not including holidays or breaks.
  • Enter into Schoology all assignments with due dates specified as directed by KOLBE or its representative.
  • Give a minimum of one assignment to be graded per week.
  • Give a participation grade for each live class.
  • Return graded assignments within a reasonable time frame.
  • Hold office hours as follows:
    • During the normal class time of semester and mid-semester exam weeks.
    • Prior to any non-semester or mid-semester exams.
    • By request of a student.
  • Complete training in all technology, Kolbe philosophy and policy, and online teaching pedagogy prior to August 18th.
  • Attend faculty in-service meetings as directed.
  • Attend all department meetings as scheduled.

Job Qualifications

  • Classroom teaching experience and/or tutoring homeschool students
  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.  
  • Master’s degree in field or teacher certification (any state).  Preferred
  • Previous experience teaching in an online environment. Preferred

Job Requirements

  • Pass Kolbe Academy technology and online learning certification course. 
  • Dedicated work space appropriate for conducting live online classes in a professional manner.
