Algebra 2 - Kolbe Academy

Algebra 2

The Algebra 2 (OK) course moves at a very reasonable pace for most high school students.  It is meant to be a college preparatory course in nature, taking the student through a great number of Algebra 2 concepts but also spending a little more time on reviewing Algebra 1 than the honors course.  Upon completion of Algebra 2, students will be ready to tackle any PreCalculus course the following year.

Topics in the Algebra 2 course include:

  • Linear functions
  • Systems of linear equations & inequalities
  • Quadratic functions & complex numbers
  • Exponential & logarithmic functions
  • Rational algebraic functions
  • Irrational algebraic functions
  • Quadratic relations & systems (circles, ellipses, hyperbolas, & parabolas)

Students taking this course for Kolbe Core (OK) credit are expected to complete daily assignments, participate in class, and complete periodic exams and quizzes as assigned by their instructor.  All requirements are assigned and graded by the instructor.

  • Algebra and Trigonometry: Functions and Applications
  • Calculator Requirement & Policy:  Graphing Calculator is required. Students must have a standalone calculator that has the ability to graph, work with polar coordinates, make statistical calculations, complete matrix calculations, store multiple values, and evaluate trigonometric functions. Teachers will teach the course using a TI-84 Plus CE calculator. Students should plan to either have a device that they are able to function independently or a device that will match the teacher. The TI-83 Plus and lower versions do not contain all necessary capabilities.
