History 6 - Kolbe Academy

History 6

Sixth Grade History is designed to be a comprehensive introduction to the history of the world.

Beginning with a short study of geography, the course then moves through the ancient civilizations of Israel, Greece, and Rome.  From ancient civilizations, students then study the rise of the Byzantine Empire/Islam and the Middle Ages of Europe.  Semester 1 will end with a look at Europe during the Renaissance and Reformation.  The history of Christianity, as it applies to each time period and region, is carefully weaved throughout the entirety of the course.  Thus, although not strictly a course in Christian History, students will end the year with a solid understanding of Church History across both time and culture.  During Semester 2, students will journey through the history of non-European countries and cultures such as China, Japan, India, Africa, Russia, North America, and Latin America.  This course is truly a survey course devoted to the study of God’s people in all lands.  The following Psalm speaks to the faithfulness of God in all times and places:

Psalm 100

“Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the
Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the
Lord is God.

It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving

and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.”

Students should expect to have daily reading, at least one (or more) weekly written assignments, required participation, and exams as assigned by their instructor. All requirements are assigned and graded by the instructor.
