Lord of the Rings Seminar

This class is a condensed study of J. R. R. Tolkien’s: The Hobbit, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, The Return of the King. Each text will be read and discussed with special attention given to the sometimes-hidden themes present in the story with regards to their significance for Catholic life and culture.

Professor Joseph Pearce will guest lecture twice during the course, bringing his wisdom and experience to guide this summer’s encounter with Tolkien’s brilliant narrative.

Academic Workshop

Academic workshop classes will include mostly in-class work with some outside reading and/or homework. Academic workshop classes are Pass/Fail and are added to a student’s transcript/report card only by request of the parent after the class is complete using this form. High school workshops will receive 2.5 credits and will receive the OS (Kolbe Summer Course) designation on the Kolbe transcript. Academic workshop classes are limited to a 20 student enrollment maximum.

Students will need The Hobbit and the three books in the LOTR series: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King.
