History 7

Grade Seven History covers world history from the beginning of recorded history to the inception of the French Revolution.  Beginning with the coming of Jesus Christ, and highlighting the achievements of medieval Christendom, this text focuses on the effects of the Christian faith on human civilization.  Grade Seven History uses Light to the Nations: Part One: The History of Christian Civilization.  Grade Eight History follows with the second volume, Light to the Nations: Part Two: The Making of the Modern World.

This introductory history course begins with the creation of the world and covers the concept of prehistory.  The study’s focus begins with Incarnation, and traces the development of Christendom from the founding of the Roman Catholic Church to the inception of the French Revolution.  While secular history is emphasized, the relationship between Church and state, as well as the relationship between Catholicism and other religions, is not overlooked.   

Students taking this course will have a mid-term and final exam each semester.  Additionally, students should expect to have daily reading and minor weekly written assignments or quizzes.

Assignment due-dates and grades are established by the parent.  Optionally, a student may be enrolled in the Self-Paced Plus© grading assistance program to receive grading assistance from a Kolbe Academy faculty or staff member on designated assignments in the course. In this case, parents will still submit final grades to Kolbe for the course, but may choose to incorporate the graded assignments into the student’s overall grade or use the Kolbe-graded assignments to assist in arriving at the student’s final grade.
