We are excited to announce the following new programs and curriculum for the 2016-17 School Year.
Additional instructional time has been added for all online honors and upper level math, science, and foreign language classes. These classes will now meet for 1:20 minutes twice/week. Honors and upper level courses in math, science, and foreign language include:
Kolbe is very excited to announce a new program for both online and homeschool students to enjoy. Currently, students enrolled in online Honors Theology, Literature, or History, have attended live class with students enrolled as "Core" Theology, Literature, and History students. While honors students will continue to attend live class with core students, beginning in the 2016-17 School year, "Honors Seminar" will be offered for honors students to attend for live, dedicated, and in-depth discussion of the topics they encounter during regular class time.
Here are some details on the new program:
Kolbe released its first iteration of self-paced courses during the 2015-16 School Year. These courses used recordings of last year's online courses, along with the homeschool course plan, to maneuver a student through Kolbe's homeschool curriculum. However, we quickly realized that the set-up of these courses was not ideal for the audience and presented much confusion for students trying to use the homeschool course plan. With that in mind, we wanted to quickly address this issue by developing a new self-paced course program, even if it meant releasing the courses in a much slower way. The new courses will integrate the homeschool curriculum into Schoology, our learning management system, so that the student can step through the assignments piece by piece. Additionally, videos recorded especially for self-paced students (and not just pre-recorded videos) will be integrated strategically right into the course plan. The following are a list of courses that will be ready in August or September of 2016:
More may be ready and will be announced as they come available. Self-paced courses do not include teacher interaction, grading, or textbooks, but do include course plans, study guides, exams, video instruction, and answer keys for parents to grade exams, papers, and study guide questions.
Kolbe is excited to announce that we are in the final stages of implementing a new Student Information System (SIS). This new system will allow families to access their digital records for their child including past and present course information. Not only will this system be a nice feature for all of our families, it will also help our administrative staff serve our families in a much more thorough and efficient way. Look for more information later this spring!
