Schoology Parent Account Settings and Notifications
This article shows parents and primary educators how to update account settings, notifications, and the user’s personal profile.

Changing Your Password
To keep your Schoology account secure, you should change your password upon your first log in. To do so, click your name or your student’s name (whichever is showing) to the top right of the Schoology page, then select “Settings” from the drop-down menu.
On the Settings page, scroll down to the “Account Password” section, then click the “Change your password” link.
This will bring up a window that will prompt you for your current password, and will allow you to select a new password. Once the fields are complete, hit “Submit”.
Updating the Time Zone in Schoology
It is highly recommended that you, the parent or primary educator, update your time zone settings to reflect the correct time zone.
Click the drop-down arrow to the top-right of the Schoology page, then select “Account Settings” from the drop-down menu.
Note: It does not matter if you are in the parent or student view when updating the time zone – updating one view will automatically update the other.
In the Timezone section, open the drop-down list and select a metropolitan area that has the student’s correct timezone.
Once a time zone is selected, click the “Save Changes” button.
Setting Parent Email Notifications
Schoology will notify you via email of actions such as upcoming or overdue assignments, course and group updates, and school-wide events and updates.
To review and update Schoology Parent notifications, click the drop-down arrow to the top right of the Schoology page, then selecting “Notifications” from the drop-down menu.
If you are on the Account page, you can navigate to the Notifications page by selecting the “Notifications” tab at the top of the page.
Below are Kolbe’s recommendations of notifications that should be turned on under the Academic, Group, and School sections.
Note: Emails sent to a student’s mykolbe.org account are automatically forwarded to the parent’s email address on file with Kolbe. Because of this, you may receive duplicate emails from Schoology, and may wish to update your Schoology notifications around your student’s notification settings.
Once settings have been updated, click the “Save Changes” button at the bottom of the page.
Updating the Parent Profile
You can update your parent profile from the parent view by clicking on their name to the top right corner of the Schoology page.
This will bring up the your personal profile, which includes information such as a bio, interests, activities, and contact info. The profile content can be updated by clicking the “Edit” button to the top right of the profile’s page.
You may edit information listed on the About Me, Interests & Activities, & Contact Info tabs. The “Save Changes” button should be clicked on each section where updates are made.
Note: If you decide to list your phone number, it will be viewable to teachers and other parents, but not students. Websites listed are viewable by teachers, other parents/educators, and students.
Profile pictures may be updated by hovering over the profile picture, then clicking “Edit.”
A picture may be uploaded from a computer, or a generic avatar may be selected.
