Important Note to Online Academy Students
If you are taking online courses at Kolbe Academy, be sure to view the Schoology Online Students sections. While online and self-paced Schoology courses may look similar at a glance, there are notable differences between how content and materials are presented.
If you are taking a blend of both online and self-paced courses, read both the Online Students sections and the Self-Paced Students sections.
Once you are logged in at kolbe.schoology.com, you can find your course(s) by clicking “Courses” on the main menu at the top of the Schoology page. A drop-down list of your courses will appear; open your course of interest by clicking on it from the list.
Note: The course list drop-down may have a scrollbar if the student is enrolled in several courses.
If you want to view your courses on a full page in Schoology (instead of a drop-down list), click the “See All” button at the bottom of the list. To open a course from this page, select the section name beneath the the course’s title.
Materials & Updates Pages
When opened, online courses in Schoology will default to the “Materials” page.
The “Materials” page is where you will find coursework, video lectures, and other materials (i.e. links to external sites, downloadable files, discussion boards for Self-Paced Plus courses, etc.).
Note: The “Discussion Board” shown in the image above will only appear in Self-Paced Plus courses.
The “Updates” page, which can be accessed from the menu to the left side of the course’s page, is where you will find updates posted by Kolbe administration.
The Materials page, which can be accessed via the menu on the right side of the course’s page, is comprised of folders that organize your assigned course work (and other materials), based on the course’s homeschool course plan. The Materials page will contain the following:
- A link to the Kolbe Bookstore page where the required course texts and other materials can be purchased.
- A “Course Resources” folder, which contains information that is pertinent to the course as a whole. Contents may include (but are not limited to) the homeschool course syllabus and Kolbe publications used throughout the course.
- Semester 1 and 2 folders, which contain course readings, assignments, video lectures, self-graded quizzes, and potentially other supplemental material to help you better master the course’s content.
You can click the drop-down arrow next to a folder to expand it and see it’s contents on the same page. You can also expand sub-folders in the same way.
To view additional information about materials within a folder, click the folder’s title (i.e “Semester 1”) to open its contents in a new page. This will allow you to preview additional information for materials, including instructions for each assignment (though you may have to open an assignment fully to see the entirety of its instructions).
Below are different types of materials you may find throughout self-paced courses:
Note: Discussion Boards are only available for use in Self-Paced Plus courses.

Important Note about SP+ Assignment Grades
It is important to understand that a self-paced course is ultimately a homeschool course, meaning that your parent has the final say regarding grades. Your parent may choose to use all, some, or none of the SP+ assignment grades when submitting a grade report to Kolbe for an official transcript. They may also choose to use grades of assignments that were submitted directly to them for grading (non-SP+ assignments).
Once you’ve submitted some assignments and the administrative teacher has graded them, you can view the grades of those assignments in one place by visiting the “Grades” tab to the left side of the SP+ course’s page. This will bring up a drop-down list that can be expanded down from the overall school year down to each individual assignment within the course’s categories.
Note: Kolbe Academy publishes grades for Semester 1 and Semester 2 on official transcripts. An “overall” grade that averages the two semesters is not published on the official transcripts.
