United in Prayer: The Conclave and the Future of the Church

With the passing of Pope Francis I on April 21, 2025, the Catholic Church enters a period of prayerful anticipation known as the Sede Vacante—a time when the Chair of St. Peter is vacant and preparations begin for the election of a new pope. This momentous event in Church life draws the eyes and hearts of the faithful around the world toward the Sistine Chapel, where 135 eligible Cardinal Electors will soon gather in conclave.

At Kolbe Academy, we are joining the Church in this sacred time with both reverence and hope. As a school rooted in the Catholic tradition, we are inviting all students, families, faculty, staff, and alumni to "adopt" a cardinal and pray for him as he prepares to participate in the conclave. We are also praying for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis, that he may rest in the eternal peace of Christ.

Each Kolbe grade has been assigned specific cardinals to pray for, and a special video created by our team includes prayers for both the departed pope and the one who will be chosen to lead us next. We invite you to watch, pray along, and consider sharing this prayerful initiative with others in your community.

Why Prayer Matters

The election of a pope is not merely a political or ceremonial process—it is a profound spiritual moment for the universal Church. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the next Successor of Peter will be chosen to shepherd the faithful through the challenges of our time. Your prayers, offered in faith and unity, are a powerful contribution to this process.

Three Ways to Join Us in Prayer

  1. Pray with us: For the repose of Pope Francis and for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in the conclave
  2. Watch the video: Prayerful video focusing on the future pope and cardinals of the conclave
  3. Adopt a Cardinal: Kolbe students are praying for specific cardinals—join us by doing the same in your own family

Let us remain united in prayer and faith as we await the joyful news of Habemus Papam!
